IPO shows this weekend, album release & new site!

This weekend marks the official CD release of “The Long Path,” a new full-length album I recorded with the help of producer Andrew Alekel (Queens of the Stone Age, Weezer, Matt Costa) over the past several months in Hollywood at Grandmaster Recorders.

You can listen to songs from the album on the newly revamped website – http://philvandermost.com, and of course you can order a copy through the site.  Links will posted in a few days to iTunes and other digital purchase options.

To mark the occasion of the release, my band is performing a pair of shows – at 7:30 pm Saturday night in Huntington Beach, and Sunday at 11:45 am on the Main Mall Stage at the Orange County Fairgrounds.   Both sets are in conjunction with the International Pop Overthrow Festival – Los Angeles.   We’ll have copies of the new album and other merchandise available, so hope to see you at one of these.

Please plan on giving the CD a listen, and hope to see you at an upcoming show.   The album is dedicated to you - thank you for supporting our performances and my music!

Update on the New Album - it's almost here!

Very excited to announce that my new album, titled “The Long Path” will be released on July 25 on iTunes, Napster and Amazon, as well as in CD format from Not Lame Records.  I will sell copies on my website also, of course.   The 11-song disc is produced by Andrew Alekel, a fantastic producer/engineer (google him and be amazed by what he’s worked on.)

The songs on the album, basically a love letter to my family and friends, are the result of about 8 months of writing and demo-ing.   I recorded everything at Grandmaster Recorders in Hollywood with the help of former Greenwich Meantime bandmates Nick Hoffman (drums) and Scott Vonkaenel (bass guitar.)   We started the recording process the day after I got back from the Coachella Music Festival, and finished mastering on June 8.

Grandmaster is the studio Andrew runs, and it proved to be a great working studio with fabulous acoustic spaces and mind-blowing vintage gear.    Some amazing records have been made there, such as ‘Color and the Shape’ by Foo Fighters, ‘Shake Your Money Maker’ by the Black Crowes, Beck’s ‘Midnight Vultures’ and others - which added more than a bit of inspiration.

The first copies of ‘The Long Path’ will be available on July 25 at my CD release party, coinciding with sets at the ‘09 International Pop Overthrow Festival - LA.   I’ll be performing with my band Saturday night July the 25th at Fitzgeralds in Huntington Beach as part of an 8-band lineup and then at the Orange County Fairgrounds the following day around noon along with a full line-up of more indie pop/rock bands.  Exact set times to be announced very soon.

There are several clips of the new songs on my myspace and facebook music pages, please check ‘em out and stay tuned for the release of the record.  Thanks & much love.

Cheers,
Phil

Hello from the Studio!

Last week, we finished basic tracks for 11 new songs for my new album, to be released this summer.   Andrew Alekel (whose many engineering and production credits include Foo Fighters, No Doubt, Weezer, Jack Johnson, Devendra Banhart and Matt Costa) is producing and engineering the new record, done at Grandmaster Recording Ltd.

The studio is somewhat legendary - built in the 60’s - and the birthplace of records such as ‘Shake Your Moneymaker’ by the Black Crowes, No Doubts’ ‘Tragic Kingdom” and ‘Midnight Vultures’ by Beck, to name just a few.  I am obviously stoked to be doing all of this name dropping, but even more so about the new songs and for all of you to listen once the album’s done!
